EEIG-PSCE COOPERATION

In recognition of the strong deterioration in the West Bank and Gaza environmental situation, and in the absence of strong governmental leadership in the field of environment, The European Economic Chamber of Trade Commerce and Industry (EEIG)-Palestine Office   have recently entered into an agreement of cooperation with the Palestinian Society for the Conservation of Environment (PSCE) in the areas of environmental conservation, planning, and management for the West Bank and Gaza.
PSCE primary consists of a group of specialists in the fields of environment, water conservation, natural resources management, wastewater treatment and reuse, and institutional capacity building. It was established in the year 2000 as a non-profit conservation non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to safeguarding biodiversity and ecosystem and natural resources integrity.

The purposes for the cooperation between PSCE and EEIG are as follows:

  • To promote the implementation of the Palestinian Environmental Policy.
  • To reduce adverse environmental impact, by minimization, re-use, recycling, composting.
  • To give due consideration to the environmental impact of planning and development decisions in Palestine.
  • To ensure that the sewage systems in Palestine are managed in compliance with the existing regulations.
  • To reduce the consumption of the natural resources in Palestine.
  • To promote the development of an Environmental Management System (EMS), for the industry in Palestine, and to subject that system to regular internal audit and external verification, to maintain certification to ISO14001.
  • To raise and maintain the awareness of environmental sustainability issues amongst the local community in Palestine.
  • To support initiatives of individuals, NGOs and communities related to environmental conservation.
  • To empower the Palestinian women to play an active role in decision making on environmental issue

The initiative of the EEIG-PSCE COOPEARTION was advanced in order to address the pressing environmental problems in the West Bank and Gaza, through the development and implementation of environmental programs, which are usually, got its financial support from the international donating agencies acting in the area.
The mission that the EEIG-PSCE has is to cooperate with international NGOs and institutions to work on internationally funded environmental programs which are designed to improve the environmental situation in the West Bank and Gaza.
